HomeJot · Effective November 3, 2026
HomeJot is a place for your home's records: your appliances, their manuals and warranties, paint colors, your own notes, and the upkeep you need to remember. We built it so that your home stays yours.
The short version
- Your records live on your iPhone, and we don't have a copy.
- No account, no sign-in. We never ask for your name, email, address or any other personal information.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and we never sell anything about you.
- The AI features are optional. When you use one, only the home records that request needs are sent, with nothing about who you are, and our service doesn't keep them.
- Erasing is easy: Settings › Erase all data on this iPhone, or delete the app.
The rest of this page explains each of these in a bit more detail.
Your records stay on your iPhone
Everything you save in HomeJot (items, documents, notes, photos, scanned pages and tasks) is kept only in the app, on your iPhone. Even reading the text in your photos and PDFs, so search can find it, happens right on your iPhone.
Like your other apps, HomeJot is included in your iPhone's usual iCloud or computer backup, so you won't lose your records if you change phones. Those backups are covered by Apple's or your computer's own privacy terms.
When you use an AI feature
Three features use AI to save you typing and searching. They're optional: if you never tap them, nothing about your home ever leaves your iPhone. When you do use one, here's exactly what's sent:
- Scan a label: the photo of that label, so the brand, model and serial number can be read for you.
- Ask: your question, plus the records that relate to it, as text. Your iPhone chooses them first, so a question about the dishwasher sends the dishwasher's details, notes and tasks, a few home-wide records, and only the parts of its manuals that relate to the question. Your photos and PDF files themselves aren't sent.
- Suggest maintenance: the same kind of text records, for one item or the whole home, and today's date, so due dates make sense.
Nothing about who you are goes with it: not your name, Apple Account, phone number or location. Only what you've saved about your home is sent, and only the part the request needs. If you've written something personal into a record, such as your plumber's phone number, it's included only when it relates to what you asked.
The request goes to the HomeJot service, which passes it to our AI provider, OpenAI, and sends the answer back to your iPhone. The HomeJot service doesn't save the photo, the question, the records or the answer.
We ask OpenAI not to store these requests, and OpenAI doesn't use them to train its models. Like every customer of its service, OpenAI may hold a request for up to 30 days, only to watch for abuse, and then deletes it. See OpenAI's privacy policy.
The little the HomeJot service keeps
To run the AI features fairly and keep them working, the service keeps a few things. None of them is your home's records, and none of them tells us who you are:
- A device key. Apple creates a random key on your iPhone just for HomeJot, which shows that a request comes from the real HomeJot app. It isn't linked to your name, Apple Account or phone number.
- A daily count of AI requests for that key, so each iPhone gets its fair share of the daily AI limit.
- Basic technical logs. Like any website, our hosting company briefly keeps standard logs, such as the internet address a request came from, to keep the service secure. They never contain your photos, questions or records.
You're in control
- Use HomeJot without the AI features, and nothing about your home leaves your iPhone.
- To delete everything, use Settings › Erase all data on this iPhone, or delete the app. If you'd like it gone from your backups too, delete those backups as well.
- There's no account to close, because there isn't one. If you have any question about your data, just write to us.
Children
HomeJot is made for adults looking after a home. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them.
If this policy changes
We'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects what leaves your iPhone, we'll tell you in the app as well.
